During Week 6, we made significant progress in various aspects of our project:
1. Design Critique Session: We received valuable feedback from our peers during the design critique session, and we decided to focus on implementing features that allow users to expand their network, share profiles, schedule in-person meetings, and have a rating system for users.
2. User Interviews: We conducted informational interviews with professionals and students to gain insights into their mentoring preferences and styles. We learned that mentors are often motivated by their passion for helping others and feel a sense of achievement when their mentees succeed.
3. Affinity Diagram Update: Based on the interviews with professionals, we updated our affinity diagram, highlighting the importance of matching mentoring styles and the idea that mentorship should be mutually beneficial.
4. Team Building Exercise: We engaged in a team-building exercise to share our likes, wishes, and what-ifs, reinforcing our positive team dynamics and dedication to creating a successful application.
5. Prepare for Paper Prototyping: We finalized a set of questions for user profiles to collect relevant information for effective mentor-mentee matching. We also integrated LinkedIn for onboarding and autofilling onboarding questions.
6. Calendar Integration: We designed a calendar integration feature, allowing users to choose between in-person and virtual meetings and sending calendar invitations for scheduled sessions.
7. Messaging Interface: We enhanced the messaging interface by adding group chat capabilities and the ability for users to leave reviews after mentoring sessions.
8. Personalized Suggestions: We developed a feature to suggest ice breaker questions, common topics, and bonding activities between mentors and mentees to facilitate more engaging conversations.
Overall, Week 6 was productive, and we tested our assumptions about target users, finding that mentors are often intrinsically motivated to help, and they actively seek out mentees rather than the other way around. These findings will guide our design decisions as we move forward.
