Week 5 was an eye-opening experience for us as a team. We learned that designing application interfaces is more challenging than we initially thought. The Crazy 8s activity taught us the importance of iteration and combining ideas to create a cohesive design. It also made us realize the effort and skill required to design interfaces that flow seamlessly.
In our user interviews, we discovered that our assumptions about the target users were partially correct. Students seeking mentorship were indeed a bit shy, and they appreciated when mentors initiated conversations. However, we also recognized the need to gather more insights from professional interviewees to gain a well-rounded understanding.
To test our assumptions, we completed the Crazy 8s tasks, and it was a stressful but valuable experience. We now appreciate the complexity of app design and understand the significance of starting the design process early, iterating, and seeking feedback.
Our new design argument is that creating user-friendly interfaces requires careful consideration of goals, user needs, and usability. We need to answer key questions about the purpose and audience of our designs to ensure we create effective and inclusive applications.
Week 5 Achievements:
- Completed Crazy 8s sketches, providing a starting point for our designs.
- Conducted interviews with students and learned more about their preferences and needs.
- Realized the complexity and importance of designing user interfaces.
- Created user flow diagrams in Figma to visualize the application flow.
- Gained a better understanding of the design process and the need for iteration.
Moving forward, we will incorporate our learnings from Week 5 to refine our designs and create a more user-centered and efficient application.
