CS 449 - Week 3

Writer: William WangWilliam Wang

In Week 3, we received positive feedback from the TA on our D2 assignment and PO1. Our D2 assignment was graded 10/10, and the TA commented that it was great work. Similarly, our PO1 assignment also received a perfect score of 10/10, with the TA praising it as an excellent writeup.

During this week, we focused on conducting mock interviews for our D2 assignment. We discovered that some questions were confusing to the interviewees, particularly those that contained assumptions or leading prompts. We learned that asking open-ended questions drew out the most interesting information from our interviewees, providing valuable insights for our project.

Based on the feedback from partner teams, we realized the importance of avoiding leading questions and not creating scenarios that could bias the responses. We also improved the flow of our interview questions for future interviews.

For PO1, we conducted user interviews with both professionals and students. From the interview with the professional (P1), we learned that even junior professionals are willing to provide mentorship, and informal mentorship experiences can be valuable. However, general mentorship resources outside of the workplace are limited.

From the interview with the student (S1), we discovered that their career plans were influenced by various factors, such as their physical condition, family background, and knowledge. The student emphasized the importance of intelligence quotient (IQ) mentorship and expressed interest in building a network and self-exploration.

Based on our assumptions and hypotheses about target users, we learned that our assumptions about the target demographic were limited by our own backgrounds. Therefore, we decided to interview users from diverse fields to better understand their needs. Our new hypotheses focused on the importance of providing high-quality mentorship tailored to users' specific requirements.

Overall, Week 3 was productive and enlightening, and we gained valuable insights from conducting mock interviews and user interviews. We are excited to use this information to refine our project further.
